About The Project

Tori Drew was proud to be part of the 'Delivering Hope' project with the King Edward VI Foundation, a powerful and collaborative performance bringing together students from five schools across the Foundation. Working alongside an inspiring creative team, the project explored the story of the 6888th Central Postal Battalion through dance, spoken word, and art. Tori was thrilled to be working specifically with students from Handsworth Grammar School for Girls.

From the outset, the work was grounded in a strong sense of purpose. The story of the 6888th, an all-Black, all-female U.S. Army unit stationed at King Edward’s School in 1945, offered a meaningful foundation for creative exploration. Through the process, students were supported to engage with this history in a way that was both respectful and deeply personal.

Throughout rehearsals, Tori supported young people to develop confidence, creativity, and connection. Bringing together students from different schools created a shared space for collaboration, where ideas could be exchanged and individual voices valued. Dance and storytelling became powerful tools for expression, allowing participants to connect with the material in ways that felt relevant to their own experiences.

The final performance at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre was a moving celebration of the students’ dedication, talent, and collective effort. The project not only highlighted an important and often overlooked story, but also demonstrated the impact of creative collaboration in building community and amplifying young voices.
