Generations Dancing
Generations Dancing brought together community artists with school children and older people living in Bedford. Over an 11 week period participants worked together to produce a new dance performance and photography and film exhibition

About The Project

Generations Dancing was an intergenerational community arts project in Bedford that brought together school children and older adults to connect through dance, film, and photography. Working as a community dance artist on the project, Tori Drew supported participants over an 11-week programme to explore movement, share experiences, and collaboratively create a performance.
At the heart of the project was a simple but powerful idea: to create space for people of different ages to come together, build relationships, and learn from one another through creativity. Weekly sessions encouraged participants to develop confidence, express themselves, and find common ground through shared artistic experiences.
The project culminated in a live performance and exhibition at the University of Bedfordshire Theatre as part of U.Dance 2018, celebrating the work created and the connections formed along the way. Alongside the creative process, academic research explored the impact of the project on wellbeing, community connection, and long-term sustainability.
Generations Dancing was an important example of how intergenerational dance can foster inclusion, strengthen communities, and create meaningful, lasting experiences for those involved.
